This means that the product is tested for safety and quality according to the technical regulations of the CU. In this case the authorization document for the production and sale of pine nuts is a declaration of conformity.

In addition to the mandatory declaration procedure, any manufacturer of pine nuts can undergo voluntary certification. The availability of the certificate confirms that the Siberian pine seeds have passed laboratory tests and their quality meets the legal requirements.

Buying pine nuts with a certification and declaration mark, consumers can be sure that before them is a safe product for health. However, it is also necessary to pay attention to the shelf life of nuts. This is a perishable product, which requires special transportation and storage conditions.

How to choose and store pine nuts correctly

When choosing pine seeds, or pine nuts, an important criterion is the appearance of the product: it should have no traces of lesions or mold, the shell should be uniform, light in color.

If the pine kernels smell moldy, it is a sign that the product is spoiled, and it is necessary to refrain from eating it. If the seeds are sold in a shell, it is worth shaking them. If you hear a rattling sound, it indicates that the nuts in front of you are expired nuts, which were harvested last season.

Pine nuts bought in the shell can be stored for up to a year if the proper conditions are provided. The temperature should be room temperature and the humidity should be low. Peeled kernels can last in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. It is very important that the nuts are not exposed to direct sunlight. Storing the seeds in the freezer will extend their shelf life to 8 months.
